photo of completed quilt

This was one of Ruth’s uncompleted projects.

My love for quilting began in 2010 after meeting up with Ruth Woodward and joining a small quilting and sewing group that met every two weeks in various members’ homes. I took a number of quilting classes at a local quilt shop. I took two classes (hand piecing of quilt blocks and hand quilting). In addition, I was a participant in two Saturday Sampler projects. After Ruth died, her unfinished projects, quilting books, stash and notions were divided up among the members of the group.  I have finished three of her unfinished projects. The pink and green quilt featured on this page is a full sized quilt. I added some framing strips to the edges and had the quilt professionally quilted by a long arm quilter. Then I put on the binding to finish it off.  It is beautiful.

My love of quilting has alot to do with the graphic and visual nature of the medium.  I am finding it hard, however, to quilt large projects.  Because of that, in the future I will do smaller wall hangings.  In addition, in the summer of 2012 I took two crazy quilt classes and one embroidery class.  As much as I love the overall graphic nature of bed quilts, the more creative and unusual layouts of crazy quilts appeal to me more.  I have two crazy quilt projects awaiting completion.
