Ruth’s Unfinished Projects

Ruth Woodward was the mentor and guiding star of a small quilting group I joined in NJ. When Ruth died, her family took her finished quilts and then her daughter gave the members of the group her unfinished projects, notions, books and fabric stash. She helped divide that all up among us.  I completed three of Ruth’s projects.

The pink and green quilt was a completed top which I had professionally long arm quilted and then put on the border myself.  This is a king sized quilt which is much too big for my bed so it has been donated to the church in Princeton as a fund raiser for the Appalachian Service Project.

In addition, there was a set of completed blocks, called Tropical Breeze, which I finished off as a shower curtain for myself.  This is a vibrant set of blocks with irises and other tropical flowers.  I also completed a nine patch quilt for a friend at Holly House.

After I finished the pink quilt (first photo on this page) there was so much extra fabric left over, including two unfinished blocks, that I made the table runner below. This was a challenge because I barely had enough of the small blue and green blocks. The center which has two fussy cut flower blocks is there because there simply weren’t enough blue and green blocks! I am learning to do free motion quilting and for the table runner below I used a lazy eight design.  What a challenge!table-topper
